凱特（凱瑟琳·澤塔-瓊斯 Catherine Zeta-Jones 飾）天生麗質，是一所餐廳裡傑出的主廚，她是個十足的工作狂，因為工作她的生活變得十分刻板，沒有一絲火花。對自己的手藝非常自信的她常常都堅持己見，老闆只好強迫她去看心理醫生。 凱特的妹妹因車禍而逝世了，留下年幼的女兒祖需要凱特照顧。媽媽離開後，祖變 得越來越封閉。無論凱特怎麼努力，祖還是與阿姨保持距離。 此時餐廳裡請來了新的廚師尼克（艾倫·艾克哈特 Aaron Eckhart 飾），工作態度完全有別與凱特，這使凱特無法接受，但他卻有能耐使不喜歡吃正餐的祖乖乖吃飯。凱特不得不對尼克另眼相看，此後因為祖的關係他們約會漸多，凱特與尼克之間也產生了微妙的情緣，就連凱特與祖之間的關係也大大改進了。 但這時，兩人在工作上卻出現了分歧，感情受到了挑戰……

本片講述KristofferPolaha飾演的棒球運動員因為個人問題，遺憾地結束了職業生涯。沮喪的他意外結識了在當地雜貨店工作的小夥兒。慢慢的，他與這位患有唐氏綜合症但樂觀善良的打工仔成為朋友，並在他的幫助下，日漸走出人生低谷。
