有舞王之稱的DJ·威廉斯（哥倫布·紹特 Columbus Short 飾）就剛剛經歷了一場因為飆舞而引起的社團爭鬥，他一直呵護的弟弟在這場流血事件中意外喪生。身心俱疲的他來自洛杉磯，到來亞特蘭大一所黑人學校進修。 在新環境裡感到非常不適應的他，自從加入了一個街舞愛好者同盟會之後，生活開始有了翻天覆地的變化。他的出眾舞技在這裡得到施展，同盟的人在景仰之餘，都期待他能幫助同盟會奪取大家垂涎已久的全國街舞大賽冠軍。然而他們不知道的事，縱然有出神入化的舞技，在成為同盟會最有競爭力的主心骨之前，DJ必須面對的是如何拋開殘酷的往事帶給他的種種陰影。DJ是否能夠重新站起身來，正視前方的道路，在這條自己曾經深深熱愛的街舞道路上勇往直前呢？
